Kaffae elaborates sustainability through coffee.

Season after season coffee plants flower and produce cherries. Harvest after harvest, coffee cherries are sorted and processed to transform seeds into coffee-beans. Kaffae’s mantra, Origin to Origin, articulates that the unique flavors in single-coffee are the foundation of the end-to-end relation between two localities: one end being the locality where a cup of coffee is consumed while the first end is the locality where the seeds to make that cup of coffee were grown. The flavors of coffee change depending on where the coffee-plant grew and Kaffae offers coffee to preserve the flavors unique to different localities.

Coffee grows around the globe. The coffee-plant thrives along the Equator with the tropic of capricorn and the tropic of cancer acting as ‘boundaries’. This region of the Earth’s surface is known as "the coffee-belt", and has another name: the Tropics.

It is a mistake to think that coffee is able to grow everywhere on Earth. There are many countries found within the tropics and each country is different. Aside from having different economic and political configurations, every coffee-producing country has a geologic history that characterizes the differing ecological terrains where the cultivation of specialty-grade coffee occurs. Kaffae clarifies this by correlating a coffee to one of sustainability’s three aspects (ecologic, politic, oeconomic). For example, a coffee correlated with ecologic may have been grown in soils that have been enriched by volcanic ash; a coffee correlated with politic may have been produced by a community of women; a coffee correlated with oeconomic has employed techniques and technologies that are specific to the region. With every coffee offered by Kaffae the imperative is to not only describe the locality that a coffee comes from but also to display how the flavor of any coffee relates to a locality’s ecologic, politic, oeconomic conditions.

Our coffees are roasted in small batches, one kilogram at a time. Kaffae strives to source and serve coffees that taste unique and, by doing so, to preserve the flavors unique to somewhere by expanding the discussion of what sustainability is and enabling coffee growers construct it for themselves, in accordance with the dynamics of their locality.

Kaffae’s mantra, Origin to Origin, voices the notion that the unique flavors of coffee are the foundation of an end-to-end relation between two localities: one end being the locality where a cup of coffee is consumed while the first end is the locality where the seeds to make that cup of coffee were grown. Kaffae offers coffees from different localities because the flavors of coffee change depending on where the coffee-plant grew.
Our aim is two fold, (I) taste unique flavors and (II) preserve the elements of the locality that made this so.
