Localities may be the same in some ways and similar in others, but no two localities are identical. What this means is that there is not one sustainable-solution applicable and distributable to everywhere. Orkydaceae’s vision of sustainability comes from the observation of any locality being different from anywhere else on Earth: Sustainability is different everywhere, and each locality has a sustainability unique to and characteristic of its inhabitants. By accentuating the connotation of becoming Closer to Earth inherent to the term ‘Sustainability’, Orkydaceae makes Sustainability relevant to localities through local-solutions.
Orkydaceae focuses on how populations of people interrelate with their local ecology. To connect sustainable development to the ecology of localities, Orkydaceae flips-the-script and makes localities primary. Our approach is not “top-down” nor “bottom-up” but horizontal, from locality to locality. Our purpose is to elaborate sustainability so that the dialogues on sustainability become a dialogue on how stewardship of local ecology entwines with the identity of a localities’ locals.
